I love McSween, but I think he failed to mention the big Must-Do for newspapers: keep you reporting BALANCED!!!!!!! I.e, readers do like a discernible bent/bias in the reports. Trying to figure out what side of the fence the journalist is on is why we read. BUT, and this is the big one: you can't have the entire paper leaning left, or right.
This takes all the fun out of it for the reader...so, have your journalists from each party, and all points of view -from moderate to conservative -and give each EQUAL SPACE.
Damn, I should be getting paid for this advise:)

This is beautiful.

When I saw the video of Jacek Utko at TED I was mesmerized by his talent and what he accomplished with newspapers in Eastern Europe and hoped someone would do something similar here. It has been at least a couple of years since I've bought a newspaper but if they looked like this, I'd become a regular buyer/reader of newspapers.
